What Are Implant Retained Dentures?

Implant retained dentures (also called overdentures) are dentures that are held in place by dental implants. The implants are placed into your jawbone, and clips or a bar hold the denture securely in place, so it no longer relies on suction or adhesive.

In the lower jaw, losing teeth leads to bone loss over time, and the jaw may no longer support a denture. Placing two implants provides a solid foundation for a denture that a patient might otherwise not be able to wear. In the upper jaw, implants allow the denture base to be made smaller and arch-shaped instead of covering the whole palate – ideal if your jawbone has shrunk or you have a sensitive gag reflex. The Implant Retained Denture Process

Consultation

We assess your mouth, your existing denture and your jawbone, using our CBCT 3D scanner where needed, and talk you through your options.

Implant Placement

Dental implants are placed into your jawbone – for example, two implants in the lower jaw – to create a solid foundation.

Attachments

Once your implants are ready, locators (nylon clips) or a metal bar are fitted so your denture can click securely into place.

Aftercare

Your denture is removable for easy cleaning, and it can be repaired or reshaped with extra acrylic if your face profile changes.

Because your denture is removable, it’s easy to clean and easy to repair.

Gary, the dentist, has a friendly, professional manner and his experience of and ability to do dental implants was made apparent to me.   It was an easy decision to go ahead with the sinus lift and dental implant after listening to him.  After explaining the process, Gary listened carefully to my concerns and quickly put me at ease, showing patience with me at all times.  The process of having a sinus lift and dental implant is done in stages over a few months and can also be paid for in stages along the way.  The result at the end is that I can now smile with confidence and more importantly chew normally on both sides of my mouth, not just one.  It has made such a difference to me. I cannot recommend this practise enough, i had a fixed white braces for 10 months, the whole process was made super easy & completley painless. I always hated my teeth & always covered my mouth when i smiled & now my teeth are completley straight thanks to Dr Gary Wu, I think he must be a magician 😂 I told him this many times because it is simply unbelievable what he can do. Dr Wu happily explains the process in great detail & he's always happy to answer your questions. All the staff are super friendly & put you at ease straight away. There are no hidden costs. Faith, from the moment we met placed me at total ease, was patient throughout and though doing I believe a thorough job gave me plenty of time to rest mid-treatment so my jaws didn’t ache and become painful.  Return appointment in 6mths time already booked.
